Sandy continues to be an extremely large and dangerous system with a track and intensity that are without precedent in the era of modern weather observation. To say the least, Sandy poses a major threat to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Residents from New England to New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and eastern Ohio should have completed their preparations.
Everyone:
- Preparations should be complete already near the coast; well inland, complete preparations no later than noon Monday
- Needs to be prepared for extended period without power
Coast:
- Follow orders from local officials and know if you need to evacuate due to coastal flood threat
- Prepare your home/property for frequent hurricane gusts
- Stay indoors; in all buildings, stay away from windows; in houses, avoid top floors if you live near tall trees
